Abstract: Laminated resonator antenna (LRA), also known as substrate integrated cavity antenna (SICA), was originally introduced in 1999 in LTCC process for 77 GHz short-range automotive radar applications. LRA belongs to three-dimensional (3D) resonant integrated antenna, which is constructed by a metallic-via fence, an embedded metallic floor, and a top open aperture. Featuring simple structure, easy fabrication, high radiation efficiency, and inherent ability of surface-wave suppression, LRA has been proved as a promising candidate for millimeter-wave antenna-in-package (AiP) applications. This talk will retrospect the history and development of LRA first. Regarding the issues of this antenna type, the established theoretical model of LRA will be introduced. Besides, differential dual and circularly polarized (CP) LRA designs in PCB process will be presented. Then, the self-decoupling technique of dual CP co-aperture LRA for 24 GHz in-band full-duplex radar and miniaturization technique of 60 GHz LRA for phased array in LTCC process will be discussed. Finally, the outlook on the research of LRAs will be given. Biography: Yaowei Hou (M’22) was born in 1996.
